I'll use this blog to post weekly calendars and important documents for our course this year. Make sure you bookmark this site and get in the habit of checking it regularly. If you have a google account you can even designate yourself as a "follower." (Don't worry -- becoming a "follower" doesn't mean you're joining a creepy cult. It just means that you've designated this blog as a site you regularly visit.)
And here's your first homework assignment: for Monday, September 11th, answer the reflection questions I passed out. Here they are again . . .
1. What do you hope to gain from your high school education? Why is this thing you’ve identified important to you?
2. What’s the purpose of homework? What could be gained? (Be specific, please. Saying that you’ll “learn something” isn’t good enough.)
3. What do you like least about homework? (Again, be specific and explain your answer. Writing, “doing it” is not sufficient.)
4. What is there to gain by being a person who reads well?
5. What is there to gain by being a person who writes well?
6. What is an extrinsic learner? (Look it up if you have to.)
7. What is an intrinsic learner? (Ditto.)
8. Do you think you’re primarily an extrinsic or intrinsic learner? Why?
9. If there’s one thing that Lawler needs to know about you as a person – one thing that would help him be a better teacher for you – what would that be?
Be ready to share your thoughts on these questions in class on Monday, 9/11. I expect to hear from everyone!
